Man Utd star Victor Lindelof ‘wanted by ex-boss Jose Mourinho in move to Rome with £16.8m price tag put on defender’

ROMA boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing Victor Lindelof again.

Former Manchester United manager Mourinho signed the Benfica defender for the Red Devils in 2017.

Now the Special One wants to work with the Swedish skipper in Serie A, according to Forza Roma.

The 28-year-old was a high-profile omission from United’s squad in Sunday’s loss to Brighton.

Captain Harry Maguire was given the nod alongside new signing Lisandro Martinez in central defence.

And with Raphael Varane starting on the bench, it remains to be seen if the Swede has a place in new boss Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Italian media have also linked Roma to United defender Eric Bailly.

The Ivory Coast star also missed out on a place in the squad in the 2-1 home loss to the Seagulls.

Forza say Lindelof is valued by the Red Devils at around £16.8million

They add that he is unlikely to get a new contract at Old Trafford when his current deal expires in 2024.

The report also states that he will likely find it difficult to return to the team due to the signing of Martinez and a preference for Varane.

He adds that a loan deal that includes “the right to buy back” could work for all parties.

United will look to bounce back from the weekend’s disappointment when they travel to Brentford for a late Prem kick-off on Saturday.
